Reg

for Collier County School Board 2010

- Reg Buxton is a successful Naples businessman ready to inspire people in the community to get involved with their schools as he vies for a seat on the Collier County School Board.

Buxton, a civic leader who serves on 10 local boards, said he knows the people who will contribute and he knows how to motivate them.

"You sit down with these people. You say, as a community, we've got to give back," said Buxton, 66.

"These kids are trying to read. They're really trying, but can't make it. Would you come in and read to them?" Buxton said. "That's what I bring."

Letter in the Naples Daily News

Editor, Daily News:

Our present economic environment makes it imperative our elected officials have the mind-set and mental toughness to move past the status quo and make the tough decisions that have to be made. Now is the time for rational, thoughtful decision-making with a businesslike approach to the challenges we face.

This is true not only for national, state and local government officials, but for our local School Board members, as well. Fortunately for the voters of Collier County, we have such a candidate in Reg Buxton who is running for School Board in District 3 (but no matter where you live in Collier, you can vote for him).

Buxton has business experience and a long list of leadership roles in community organizations (currently Red Cross chair and past chair of the United Way in Collier County, just to name two). He will provide the fresh, rational, non-emotional leadership we need on the School Board as we enter into several very challenging years ahead of us.

Buxton believes that we must prepare our children with more than the basics and allow our teachers to expand our childrens minds rather than teaching to the FCAT. He also believes that we must have stability, both in curriculum and in organizational management, and an atmosphere where all school employees are treated with courtesy and professionalism and where their input is valued.

Vote for Reg Buxton on Aug. 24, primary day. Let's start to make changes for a better-working School Board.

Treasurer, Reg Buxton for School Board

Letter to the Community

It is refreshing to see someone running for school board that hasn't been clouded with a mindset that occurs when too much time is spent active in the middle of a school system bureaucracy. It is nice to see a candidate that has demonstrated an ability to get along with others to allow a dialogue with differences of opinion, without belittling gestures in the background, or rolling of eyes.

Right out of the shoot, we saw Reg Buxton take a stand to solving the class size amendment and went straight to a simple solution versus working within the bureaucracy of a problem. Reg will be a needed new set of glasses to sit on the school board.

We need a school board member that can play nice with others that hasn't been a part of growing the problems.

We need Reg Buxton so that he can provide alternative solutions that fix problems in a direct business like fashion and can see outside the past bureaucratic method of solutions as done in the past.

Reg Buxton will help set goals for the Superintendent that the whole board can agree on. He will hold the superintendant accountable so that the superintendant can succeed in his efforts. Communication will improve, and we can have a school system where the whole community will be proud.

Reg Buxton represents a breath of fresh air we all need.

Letter in the Naples Daily News - June 5

I have noticed frequent and often contentious issues at the School District's Board. There are frequent changes in top administration, criticism and micromanagement by various individuals and in the media and unhealthy inconsistency that in the end hurts the students.

I have been a small business owner in Naples since 1994, and am fortunate to be acquainted with Reg Buxton, publisher of the Journal papers. I found Reg to be a good friend and someone with whom I can counsel.

I am pleased that Reg chose to run for the District 3 School Board seat. I know he can apply his problem solving talent and experience to the benefit of the school system and most of all to the students!!  He has an extraordinary ability to examine what seems to be a complex problem, break it down to its simplest components and find a simple and logical solution.  He has a strong record of voluntary community involvement in the Red Cross, United Way and many other activities.  He was the Education Foundation's Man of Distinction in 2007.

Too often people do not take time learn who and what they are voting for, or do not vote at all.  I urge anyone who has an interest in the future of the children and schools in Collier County to take time to learn about this exceptional man and where he stands on the issues by going to his web site  http://www.regbuxton.com/, and then I believe you will vote for him, please do!

News Article...

Reg Buxton, chairman of the board for the Collier-Lee Red Cross, used a quote from Gen. Colin Powell in reference to von Rinteln: "Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers who can cut through argument, debate and doubt to offer a solution everybody can understand."

His ideas add up

Editor, Daily News:

I ask that you consider voting for Reg Buxton as District 3 School Board member.

Having served with him on the Council for International Visitors in Collier County (CIVIC), I have a firsthand understanding of the passion Reg brings to worthwhile causes. Currently, he dedicates countless hours to 10 different local boards, including serving as Colliers representative to the national Red Cross.

While Reg does not possess a background in education, he boasts an impressive track record as an entrepreneurial businessman. A former educator myself, I respect the fact that Reg views the relationship between educators and business professionals as key to our communitys continued vibrancy and stability.

Reg recently remarked: In 10 different jobs I have had in my life, I have never been asked to take an exam. He believes in teaching children how to learn rather than teaching to a test. He wants to have all the integral elements of education follow well-defined policies and procedures, work in unison and meet necessary benchmarks.

To achieve these goals, Reg wants to increase the number of School Board meetings to two a month to address pressing issues more promptly. He recommends that the superintendent be reviewed quarterly. He suggests that the School Board have its own attorney, auditor and ombudsman.

Reg offers to make himself more publicly accessible, taking communication to a new, personal level. His concrete ideas, sincere concern for the children in our area and experience will translate creative new ideas into positive results.

Judgment and caring

Editor, Daily News:

I cant think of a better candidate for Collier County School Board member than my friend Reg Buxton.

No one gives more and cares more than Reg. Anything he does is 100 percent. He has a brilliant mind and a kind and giving heart. He has served on so many local boards, and his work as Colliers representative to the national Red Cross is monumental.

I work with Reg at Hodges University for our veterans, and I am always so impressed with his insight, judgment and caring.

As School Board member of District 3, he will bring exceptional expertise and experience. In all of Collier, you could not do better than Reg Buxton.

He means business

Editor, Daily News:

A businessman for the School Board:

Reg Buxton is candidate for the Collier County School Board District 3. I have known Reg to be a person who commits himself to a task and has the expertise and common sense to find a way to complete the task.

Reg is a businessman, publisher of the North Naples Journals and active on many community boards; example, the Red Cross. He is always ready to contribute to the betterment of the community.

Buxton has sought the School Board seat because he believes he can improve the school system for all the children of Naples. As a grandfather, he is committed to better education because the future is in our children. He believes in more access for parent involvement and more accountability for the money spent by the school system and the performance of the school superintendent.

We need a businessman on the School Board, one who is familiar with the finances and knowledgeable about the community.

I urge you to vote for Reg Buxton.
